TransLink's 10-Year Transportation Plan
TransLink has two plans that guide its decision-making –– a strategy for the next 30 years, and a series of 10-year plans that are the steps toward achieving that strategy. The Transport 2040 Plan is the 30-year strategy. It is a long-range document, which sets the direction for TransLink’s short-term planning. There are no specific projects in the Transport 2040 plan, just strategies and goals that are updated every five years. A backgrounder on the draft Transport 2040 plan is available here. The Transport 2040 plan was developed this year after consultation in the fall 2007. The last long-range plan was Transport 2021, which was adopted by Metro Vancouver in 1996. Metro Vancouver is also currently updating its Regional Growth Strategy, so it’s timely that both organizations are thinking about the future of the region. The 10-year plan is updated annually and contains the concrete projects and steps that TransLink will take to accomplish the goals in the 30-year strategy. The 10-year plan is reconsidered and revised every year and projected out a further nine years to keep TransLink on course to hit its 30-year goals. An overview of TransLink’s draft 2010 10-year plan is available here. This presentation provides the background to the draft 2010 10-year plan, and I encourage everyone to review this important information. TransLink will be consulting and talking about the draft 2010 10-year plan at a number of meetings this month –– June 2009. More information regarding TransLink’s public consultation process can be found here. Help shape the next 10 years of Metro Vancouver’s transit and transportation future –– Be part of the plan!
